🎉 Our new Mosaic space is getting ready! 🎉

When our Mosaic students had to transition to online learning back in March, our commitment was always to bring them back into classrooms. Since then, we’ve been actively preparing a new dedicated location housed within the Middle School complex.

Families have already had the chance to tour the new space in September, and parent-teacher conferences will take place there this week—giving students, families, and staff an early look at the exciting environment.

We have a few minor construction updates to finish, but we anticipate welcoming Mosaic students back to in-person learning after the holiday break in January!

We can’t wait to see our Mosaic students back together, learning and thriving in their new home.

🏀 Why an Auxiliary Gym Matters 🏋️‍♂️

We've heard lots of questions about the need for an auxiliary gym. If you've spent time around our high school and middle school athletics programs—especially in winter—you know our teams often start practice in the early morning and finish as late as 9 PM. Our cheer teams even have to use the cafeteria for practice space. Simply put, we don’t have enough gym space to meet every team’s needs.

In this short video, Bond Co-Chair Larry Jose explains why an auxiliary gym with a walking track and dedicated wrestling room is such an important part of the 2025 bond proposal.

🎉 Way to Go, Mosaic Students! 🎉

Our Mosaic students have been working hard in their virtual learning program, and last week we celebrated their academic achievements with a fun trip to Anderson & Girls Orchard! Students enjoyed a wagon ride, donuts and cider, and time with the animals as a reward for their efforts.

To qualify, students needed to show steady progress in their courses by earning ½ credit and being at least ⅓ of the way through their next class — while maintaining passing grades.

We are so proud of these Warriors for their dedication and success in a virtual learning environment! ❤️💙

💡 Myth vs Fact: 2025 Bond Proposal 💡

We’ve heard some questions and concerns about the upcoming 2025 bond proposal, so we wanted to clear the air. Here’s a quick look at a few common myths—and the facts you need to know.

❌ Myth #1: This bond will raise my taxes.
✅ Fact: Not true! The bond is a zero mill increase, which means the tax rate will stay at 2.41 mills—still one of the lowest in the area. The way our current debt is structured allows us to address important facility needs without increasing your tax rate.

❌ Myth #2: Rising property values mean I’ll pay more.
✅ Fact: Property values are set by your local government, NOT the school district. While adjusted property values can change the dollar amount you pay per mill, the bond itself does not increase the tax rate.

❌ Myth #3: The district can use bond money for anything it wants.
✅ Fact: By law, bond funds must be used strictly for facilities and infrastructure, not for salaries or operating expenses. This includes:
• Renovating classrooms and updating HVAC systems
• Improving safety and security, like secure entrances, updated locks, and modern fire alarms
• Expanding gym and community spaces

We hope this clears up some of the confusion! The 2025 bond proposal is about making our schools safe, modern, and welcoming spaces for students while also providing community benefits.

LOCKDOWN UPDATE as of 11:50 AM: At approximately 9:47 this morning, deputies from Mecosta County were dispatched to a verbal report of a possible student with a gun at Chippewa Hills High School. Deputies responded along with officers from Big Rapids Police Department and Michigan State Police. The Sheriff’s Office is in the early stages of investigation, but it is believed a student overheard another student mention a gun and this information was reported. The school went into a lockdown for precautionary reasons. Currently, a search is being conducted by units on the scene along with a Michigan State Police K-9 and interviews are being conducted. At this time, there is no indication that an actual firearm was possessed by a student on the campus. However, the school remains in lockdown until the search of the building is completed.
