Lego STEM Club

Lego STEM Club

Lego STEM Club is a fun after-school opportunity for 3rd and 4th graders interested in learning science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) in an exciting way!

Students will explore real-world experiences while engaging in engineering, data analysis, and communication. They’ll develop creative problem-solving skills, practice brainstorming to consider multiple perspectives, and gain confidence in presenting their projects. Most importantly, they’ll have fun building with Legos to complete weekly Lego challenges!

Mrs. Compson is a graduate of Chippewa Hills and currently serves as the Social Emotional Wellness Coach at Mecosta Elementary. While she has worked in the mental health field for a number of years, it is a second career for her. Prior to becoming a school counselor, Mrs. Compson worked as a business analyst and project manager in the technology field. Working in technology, she had the chance to volunteer in schools and developed a passion for encouraging students to consider careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).  This career experience inspired her to move into education so she could work with young people.  For a time she was employed at Ferris State University where she was responsible for retaining and recruiting women in STEM fields. She served as an advisor for Women in Technology, helped facilitate STEM workshops for elementary and high school students, and enjoyed judging First Robotics competitions. Mrs. Compson is thrilled to work with Mecosta Elementary students in Lego STEM Club because she loves to see kids use creative problem solving as they complete Lego Education projects.  Most of all, Legos are fun! When she's not at work, you may find her building Lego projects at home with her sons.
